These pretzels are genuinely so easy to make, dare I say even FUN to make! They are a perfect little treat to add to any appetizer spread if you are hosting, and they would even be perfect packaged up nicely as a gift to someone you care about this season. Homemade, handmade gifts that taste good are my favourite kind of gifts!

Why I Love this Recipe

I love this recipe because it is always a mission of mine to make recipes that are approachable for bakers of all skill sets and ages, and while I don’t have kids myself, I do think these pretzels would be a blast to make with curious little ones dying to help out in the kitchen. They are easy to make and you really cannot mess them up.

The Recipe

  • 12-15 pretzel rods
  • 8-12 ounces white bakers chocolate or any preferred chocolate
  • 2 tbsp crushed candy cane

All you need for this recipe is pretzel rods, which you can usually find in any the chip aisle of any grocery store. I used white chocolate for this recipe, about 8 ounces of it, but you could use any chocolate you prefer. I would recommend to use bakers chocolate as it melts easily and holds together well once it hardens again. You can use crushed candy canes or sprinkles of your choice to decorate these pretzels.

To make these pretzels, you simply melt your chocolate of choice and then pour it in to a cup; the taller and more narrow the cup is the better because it will make it easier to dip the pretzels. You can use a fork or a spoon to help pull the chocolate up and around the pretzel while dipping it in to the cup. Once you have dipped, place the chocolate pretzel on a parchment lined cutting board or tray and then sprinkle with the crushed candy canes. Stick these in the fridge for at least an hour to set and then enjoy!

Hot tip! When it comes to crushing candy canes, my favourite method is to remove the wrappers from my candy canes and then stick them in the my blender, make sure the blender is completely dry if you just washed it! Blend these for just a second or two and you have the perfect candy cane dusting!

How To Make

  • Start by adding parchment paper to a cutting board or tray, you are going to put your chocolate dipped pretzels back on to this tray to allow them to harden. Parchment paper is best here to prevent them from sticking and allowing them to have a perfectly smooth chocolate coating.
  • Melt your preferred chocolate in either a double broiler or in the microwave. Melt until completely smooth and then transfer to a tall , narrow glass cup.
  • Grab your pretzel rods and dip them in to the melted chocolate. Use a fork or spoon to bring the chocolate up and around the pretzel to coat it entirely. Once coated, transfer to the parchment lined baking tray and sprinkle with the crushed candy canes and / or sprinkles of your choice.
  • Stick these in the fridge for at least and hour to set completely before enjoying!

Alternative Options

You can really get creative with these pretzels. You don’t have to use pretzel rods, you could totally dip regular pretzels in chocolate instead! I think this is obvious, but you could absolutely use any chocolate that you love, it does not have to be white chocolate! If you don’t love candy canes, use some sprinkles or cocoa dust as an alternative.
