Let me introduce myself; I’m Jessika!

Welcome to Wholesome Hearty Eats, my personal collection of recipes that I have created over the years and am so excited to share with you.

On Wholesome Hearty Eats you’ll find an assortment of approachable, balanced savory recipes with a healthy serving of sweet treats. I won’t lie, sweet treats and baking have my heart because I really do believe there is no better love language than baking up something special and sharing it with people you love. Or making it for yourself, I fully support that too!

My love for creating recipes is deep rooted in the work I do offline as a Registered Clinical Counsellor. In working with different humans, I have witnessed the extents that relationships to food can impact our lives, both positively and negatively, in addition to my own experience navigating body image and food. I have realized over the years as mental health clinician that struggles around food and body image are an almost universal experience across a lot of demographics. Somewhere along the way, eating food we enjoy became rebellious and restricting food to look a certain way became the norm, and this breaks my heart. The way you look and the size of your body is the least interesting thing about you, and on the contrary, enjoying homemade food, making things from scratch, and learning away the way is one of the finest joys in life, don’t rob yourself of it!

My collection of recipes and frequent sweet treats comes from a desire to give you a gentle shove to EAT that dessert, enjoy that treat; food is connection and we are meant to enjoy it. I hope to be a small part in helping you enjoy it again.

Full disclosure; I am no professional baker or chef by any means, far from it, actually, but I think that is exactly why you will love my recipes! The recipes I share online are approachable, every day recipes that I really believe any one can make at home.

Wholesome and hearty food is food that uses real ingredients, we don’t cut corners around here, especially when it comes to baking. If you are looking for low fat or low sugar options I really don’t have much to offer, but if you are looking for desserts that your family and friends will keep on asking you to remake, that satisfies all those cravings and turns in to a family tradition, I think you are in the right spot.
